lawnmower coil bad

Hello newbe here.
I have a question. My neghbor gave me his lawnmower to fix.No spark. If I remove the kill wire I get spark. If I hook The kill wire back up I don't get spark. That means the coil is bad right. This is a MTD 4.5 HP push mower.

You have a bad switch(es) in the kill wire circuit or the kill wire is shorting to the frame somewhere.

Correct. The coil is working fine.

Bad Switch

Like the others said, if you get spark, your coil is fine. Check your safety switches one by one to see which one is bad. I'd be willing to bet it's probably the one under the seat.
