14.5 craftsman won't start....plus?
Here it is....i was mowing and got a dogs rope twisted in one blade and it killed the engine. It wouldn't turn over, let alone start. I looked it over, but nothing. Didn't see any broke or loose items. Pulled off and cleaned all connections i could find. I decided to try and jump the terminals on the starter , it worked, fired right up. Of course in order to do that, i had to lay a block on the brake and jump the switch with a wire under the seat( a loop stuck in both connections). I hopped on and kicked the block off. IT DIED AS SOON AS I LET OUT OFF THE BRAKE. I would push it in and it would idle fine. I read similiar problems..and it seemed to be the seat switch in SOME cases. I can't see how the seat switch would be my problem...because it won't start without jumping. Could it be the starter solenoid? I had a starting problem about a year after i got it, and a sears tech guy came out and worked on it at my house. He replaced the solenoid and said they had alot of problems with those..
It does seem that the two MAIN blots in the solenoid are not real tight........any ideas? Thanks by the way!!!!

The seat switch disconnected is why it is shutting off when you release the clutch pedal, but it is not why it won't start. Check to be sure the blade switch is being activated when you turn the blades off. Also check the fuse in the smaller red wire coming off the positive side of the solenoid.

When it first happened, and i checked everything...the fuse was shot, so i replaced it. Even with a temporary jumper wire stuck in the seat connector....it will die when you let out of the brake? It has to have the switch? I only used a jumper wire there because i was trying to start it while down on the floor by the engine, jumping it( starting the engine with a screwdriver). I sat some weight on the seat first, but i thought it would be easier just to use a wire. When i move the lever to turn on or off the blades the switch right under the lever isn't sticking or anything( i guess it could be bad though). Can i try to bypass a switch and see if that switch is the problem?

Bingo...on the seat switch thing. I hooked it back up, sat a weight on the seat, used the screwdriver to jump at solenoid, hopped on,pushed the weight off the seat, pushed the weight off the brake, let it out , and mowed the yard fine. I still can't figure out the "not turning over with key" thing though....

Yep, unplugging and/or jumping the switch connector won't work on that mower. The connector has an internal shunt to prevent bypassing it.
Check for voltage on the solenoid trigger wire while turning the key. If you have none, check for it on the keyswitch.
