Craftsman Riding Lawn Tractor Dies

Craftsman 42" 6 Speed Lawn Tractor
15.5 HP OPV
Briggs and Stratton TurboCool
Model 917.258470
S/N 101796D 002407

Model - 28N707
Type - 0173-01
Code - 961014ZE

System starts normally (and powerfully).
Then when letting out the clutch/brake the
engine dies. Before the engine dies if the pedal is again depressed then the engine revs normally again. All connections appear to be tight (disconnected and reconnected all of them). Purchased used 2 months ago and this is the only real problem we have encountered. Otherwise, what a powerful mower A friend thinks that it might be one of the safety switches (sort of acts like this) but for the life of me I am unable to find the fix Any ideas???

This should be the seat switch, you will have unplug it and test it with an ohm meter or continuity tester.

Agreed. Seat switch problem. Usually they don't require replacement. Here is a thread about this problem.
