Craftsman electric clutch/PTO

Hi -

I' appreciate your advice on an issue I've been having with my Craftsman riding mower. It's a 46" cut with Kohler engine & electric PTO. Recently, upon flipping the switch to engage the blades, the PTO has been making a clicking sound, as if it wants to engage but can't. After 10-15 seconds of this, the blades will slowly take off and beging to move. Is this a sign that the electric clutch needs to be replaced? I'm considering ordering a replacement off of eBay or the like and doing it myself, but would like an opinion as to whether this might be the problem or not. Thanks for your help!

Sounds like the clutch is bad or the belt is loose. Does it sound like it's scraping before the blades begin to turn? Does the clutch have adjustment nuts around the perimiter?
