Hoffco leaf blower

I have a Hoffco leaf blower that I got at an auction. It started right up and I blew some leaves with it. Later that day, it would not start. When I prime it, the gas leaks out the carb through the air filter. I am using a 40:1 gas-oil ratio with fresh gas.

The model number is HB250.

Either the fuel/primer lines are improperly situated or you need to recondition the carburetor due to trash and/or varnish in the carburetor. I'll go with the latter in this case.

Well after taking the carburetor apart and finding it clean, I took the muffler off and it started without it! I cleaned out the muffler and it works fine now.

I had another question about this leafblower; I have the mulching/bagging kit with it and was wondering if I can safely mulch small twigs with it. (When I rake my yard there are always small sticks among the leaves.) The leafblower mulches leaves by sucking them through the blower blades; which are plastic. Will sticks damage these blades?
