Bad intake valve guide
I recently took my Toro mower in for service.
It has a 6.5 HP briggs engine onit.
The dealer said that the intake valve guide was bad and that since it was under warranty that they were going to short block it.
Can anyone explain what this means to me?
I originally took it in because it was blowing smoke and consuming oil.

A 'short block' is a basic engine (either new or rebuilt) without the bolt-on components, such as head, manifold, carb, etc. They just re-use your parts from the old engine. This sounds like a good resolution to your problem.

It is, in fact, new components...Engine block and all internal components. Is the engine an overhead valve or flathead design? If you don't know this then what are the model, type and code numbers of the engine? They'll be found on the flywheel shroud.
