Stihl chain saw - seized piston?

Greetings

I have been having progresive trouble with my 5 year old Stihl model MS310. Would run for 10+ minutes, enough to heat up, then it shuts off. Would not pull start until it cooled off. Initial pulls were very difficult as if there was not lubrication.

Today it shut off and I could not pull start it as it was seized. Got a socket wrench on and broke seizer - when turning the main spindel, it feels rough.

Any ideas what likely happened and how to proceed? I want to fix myself but lack a manual.

thanks

Sounds like you're in for a lot of parts ($$$). Pull the muffler off and look in the cylinder to get an idea of what kind of damage you have. You'll probably need a cylinder, piston, rings, gaskets and seals at the very least. This is a sign of insufficient lubrication. Are you mixing the oil correctly?
