new rings ??

I was told my chainsaw compression??? was low and cause the saw not to start. The dealer told me I needed to replace my rings. Does not sound correct? Few days later, I found out my friend put straight gas into the hole where the spark plug goes because he counldn't get it to start. Could that incident caused the rings go bad?

If the rings are in fact bad, the cylinder is probably also bad...but only inspection will tell. Remove the muffler and look in the cylinder at the piston and cylinder walls to get an idea of the condition. Use a small screwdriver and press on the ring a little to see if it moves, or is stuck. The gas in the plug hole is not good, but I doubt just that little bit would have hurt it, unless it was done repeatedly.
