snapper deck belt

Well I finally finished my snapper rer rebuild with new paint,12 h.p briggs
I installed the deck today and discovered my belt was worn and I decided to
replace it,my question: is there any harm in using a regular "v" type belt"?
the auto parts house matched up the correct size and it works/cuts okay
but should I get a "lawnmower" type belt ,I did notice the old belt was
multi-sided..don't want to go cheap after all I've spent on the other parts
and labor..thank's

I suppose you could use a regular belt, but the idler pulley that applies tension to the back side of the belt is a "V" idler rather than a flat idler and that may cause the standard belt to wear faster unless you replace the idler pulley with a flat type.

thank's,I see what you mean,I wasn't sure if the old belt had just worn at
a weird shape, but now I see the reason,I'll change it out.
