Briggs & Stratton Intek snow governor spring
Good Evening,
I have a Intek 7.5 h.p. engine that I bought back in 2002 to put on my 1977 Toro snowthower that blew her engine. About two weeks ago the long governor spring broke part# 692571. It took the local shop a week to get one in. I have the new spring but do not know how it goes on it goes from a tang to the governor lever which in turn (I believe) shuts the throttle plate on the carb. as there is another spring that is smaller which opens the throttle to w.o.t. Someone emailed me a page from the service manuel but when I set it up the spring that broke does nothing. I fired the snowthrower up and it raced way over the rpm's. I now have it all apart again and can't figure out how the spring works. When I went to the place where I bought it they don't seem to know or want to tell. Anyway my question is has anyone workedon these and if so how does that long spring go on? The sping has a hook on one side then the spring then a long what looks like a paper clip that is supose to go around the tang but it just slides along the tang which in turn does not close the throttle plate. Any help would be great!. Thank You,

NEED #'s
I am sure that a lot of us has worked on Intek 7.5 h.p. engines. But without a model and type number to go by so we can look it up and see what kind of carb./engine set up you have,I'm afred that we're as much in the dark as you are.
Please reply back with the engine's model & type #'s
for better assistance, and more informed help.

This should be a 12D-series engine and the short-looped end of the spring attaches to the governor arm and the long-looped end of the spring attaches to a stationary point on the speed control bracket. The governor arm will have many options as to where the short loop connects. I recommend, since you likely didn't mark such, using a middle hole. Where this is attached will determine the top RPM's with the further out (from the pivot point (governor shaft) of the arm) you go with it, the more top RPM's you will have. The long end will mount to a T-shaped figure on the bracket. The T-shaped mount point will be toward the rewind starter in relation to the governor arm.

Yes I did notice the hole it was in
I'm sorry for not mentioning that it was in hole # 4 as when it broke the hook was still in there. As for the # I got off the side of the engine they are 000808FD then under that 12D4130019 E1
So what you are saying is that the hook that is nearest the spring goes in hole 4 and the long part goes on that tang or stationary thing?
One other thing if this is corect and I get it back together before I tighten the control lever up I make sure the carb's in w.o.t then turn the governor shaft all the way counter clockwise hold it there while tightening the control lever nut? Is this right? Thank you for your help Will,
