tiller belt placement
does anyone know the correct belt placement on a montgomery wards 8 h. p. briggs and stratton front tine tiller? model# GIL-1595E SER. # 07X54621 this is around 30 years old. Also any chance on finding an owners manual? Thanks, Bob

Sorry AJ, it does not use the same belts. This tiller has a variator on the back side of the engine and a short belt, about 19" runs from the crankshaft pulley to the variator. A longer belt, about 30" runs from the variator to the "tiller drive shaft". Backup is accomplished by way of a "tire" on the variator (think Snapper drive wheel) that is pushed up against the crankshaft pulley. Although I've been told that these are standard 1/2" belts, I don't trust the source, and in watching the variator work, I have my doubts.
