Engine won't shut off

I have an older Craftsman riding mower that was given to me. My son and I have just finished putting a new starter and other misc parts. We finally got it to stat today and it sounds great. The only problem is it won't shut off!! Obviously I pulled the spark plug wire to get it to die. Any advice?? Thanks!

If you were doing electrical work you may have left a wire unconnected or knocked something loose, or a bad ignition switch. Basically you short the ignition to ground (there should be a wire there for this already) so there is no spark and the engine dies.

You may wish to make sure your ignition switch is makinbg proper ground. Older machines that have sat around a lot can build up rust between the switch and chassis until the switch no longer makes ground when shut off.
