Engine is filling air filter with oil, crankcase has oil in it, and
blowing oil out muffler. Engine has 275 hours on it.
What is likely my problem? Thanks for your help.

Since it's blowing oil out the muffler I would think you have a bad head gasket on one of the cylinders or both. This would also build pressure in the crankcase and cause oil to come out of air filter.

Is the oil overfilled? Does the oil smell like gas?

yes the oil is alittle to full and yes it smells like gas.
is there some type of electric fuel shut off on the carb.
that could cause this?

No, not an electric shutoff, but a mechanical shutoff. The float needle is leaking in the carb. Pull the bowl, clean it out, replace the needle and put it back together. If the carb has more than just a small bit of trash in it, you'll want to soak it in a bath type carb cleaner before reassembling with the new needle.
