Briggs & Stratton Model # 461707 Type 0145-E3

I have a Craftsman lawn tractor with this engine, which is about 6 years old. The Sears repairman says that the engine is damanaged possibly because of an oil leak. He says there is no compression on one side. He suggested I junk it and buy a new tractor. Any advise on whether I can get this repaired? Is there any place where I can get a second hand engine? Thanks!

Hello Jacob!

It can be repaired if the block wasn't ruined when the problem occurred. Was it run low or out of oil? It could be a stuck valve, but is probably a broken connecting rod. Did it break the block that you can tell? You might get by with replacing just the rod and gaskets/seals. Only disassembly and inspection will tell.
