Toro lawn mower

I have a toro 5.5hp gts-5 super recycler. It ran fine last week but took a little time to get it to stay running . This week I tried to start it but it keeps dieing after about 10 seconds. If I hold my finger on the primer button and just push lightly it runs fine. When I take my finger off it will die. Any ideas why it just needs that little pressure to keep it running?
Thanks in advance, Diliingerj55

There is probably some build up or restriction in the main jet and you are forcing fuel through it by lightly pressing on the primer. Another possibility is that your fuel is old (stale) and the extra fuel you are providing via the primer helps it to run.

If your fuel is fresh, then you might want to remove the bowl nut and make sure it's clean.
