Craftsman II rider

Here is my problem: it is a tech 12.5 "Gold" engine it is leaking oil somewhere
i replaced the OHV cover gasket it drips oil on the drive belt just enough to
make the belt slip and when it hasn't been started in awhile it smokes like
crazy for acoupel of minutes (oil on the mufflar) where do i start i have went
so far as pressure washing the suspected area to check it later to no avail.

Tecumseh Gold, on a Craftsman II mower...this sounds like it's from the '80s, right? If so, this engine has the 2 torx screws going through the middle of the valve cover to hold it on, right? If so, this engine has more spots to leak from than a cardboard swimming pool. I'd suggest removing the engine and installing a complete gasket kit. This will require removal of the head to re-seal the push-rod tubes which are probably the source of your leak (lots of "O"-rings that get hard and cracked after 25 years of service). You'll want to pick up or borrow a valve spring compressor if you don't have one.

I'm not a big Tec fan, but aside from the leaky spots, I kinda like that particular engine. Once the leaks are fixed, they seem to stay fixed for a long time. Take a look though, and make sure it's the type engine with the push rod tubes. Not all had them. You might get the engine numbers and post them if you're not sure.
