Hydro gear transaxle transmission, guestion........

I have a older Craftsman Auto hydrostatic drive lawn tractor. I'm getting it ready for the summer and had a question. Is there anyway of checking the oil in the transaxle, or doesn't the transaxle have oil in it. I've never checked it and wasn't sure. If it does have oil in it that needs to be checked, how do I do that? Thank you............

Most of the hydro units are sealed and non-serviceable. If the owner's manual doesn't mention it, then it's probably a sealed unit. I've seen a few that had a small bottle on top with full/add marks on the side of the bottle. If yours has this, you should be able to see it by removing the battery and battery box and looking down at the top of the tranny.
