Push Mower Won't Stay Cranked

We have an 8 year old Murray 5.0 HP push mower. It has never given us any trouble until now. It cranks right up but only stays cranked a few seconds? Any suggestions?

Its likely a carburetor issue but we will need to know what engine(Manuf. and model #) you have to diagnose.

It is a Briggs and Stratton but I will have to get the model number for you, it just says Quantum Power 5.0 HP on the top.

Water in the fuel comes to mind. If the carburetor has a bowl, I suggest you drain it before tearing into the carb.

I'm surprised you haven't had carburetor issues for the eight years you've owned this mower! It appears you have a carburetor in need of a good cleaning and reconditioning. You have a fuel starvation issue that needs addressing. You may get lucky and simply clean out the main jet (carburetor bowl nut) and be on your way.
