Starter gear on flywheel

I pulled off a flywheel that I needed to replace the starter gear on it and noticed it had four rivets holding it on the flywheel. Do I just grind or cut them off and replace them with bolts or will the new gear come with rivets? I always just assumed the gear was bolted on. It is on a B&S m-28A707, t-0122-02, c-961213ZA...10HP.

I've looked at your IPL and that engine is very similar to mine. The bracket (item 801) should just have two torx bolts that hold it on to the block.

Unless I'm missing something or your's is customized/modified, you shouldn't have to mess with rivets at all.

Hope that helps.

Starter gear on flywheel

ttow,
I'm not talking about the starter gear on the starter shaft, its the gear (fiber or nylon) on the bottom side of the flywheel. It's held in place by four rivets.

Sorry, I should have known it was ring gear from context.

I've never had to replace one...but here is a link to an active ebay auction with a picture of it for reference. Is that the right part?

Looks like it comes with 4 bolts to replace the rivets?

You got it...the new ring gear comes with new screws and nuts. I just drill the heads off the rivets and drive them out with a punch.
