Question Tecumseh 6 HP Carbeurator Settings

I have a 6 HP Tecumseh recoil start engine on my Troy Bilt roto tiller. I have had trouble getting the engine started so I recently purchased a new spark plug. The engine still does not start.

Can someone please tell me the settings that are to be used for the power adjustment screw, idle speed adjustment screw and idle fuel adjustment needle when you cannot even get the engine started? I have had this happen once before and someone on this forum helped me but I lost the details and now I can't remember how far to turn in or out the various screws.

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me on this subject, I really appreciate it!!

For the two fuel adjustments you can use 1 1/2 turns out from a light seating of the screws.

For the idle speed adjustment just crack the throttle open slightly with it, get it started and slow it down until you get a nice even pulse from the engine.

If the engine had ran well on the previous settings those aren't likely to be off. You probably need to clean the carburetor or check the spark at the plug.

Ground the end of the plug well and turn the engine over. You should see the spark at the electrode. If no spark, suspect the coil or kill wire as being a problem.

Hope this helps,

Bob
