Wheelhorse tranny question

I have an opportunity to buy an older Wheelhorse tractor at a pretty decent price. The guy says the only thing wrong with it is the hydrostatic transmission is getting "weak" in hot weather although it works great in the winter, he says.

I'm wondering if this sounds like a major, expensive repair.

A hydro is not cheap, so keep in mind that you may wind up having a mower that needs a tranny that costs more than the mower may be worth.

That tranny should have cooling fins on it, and a fan at the input pulley. If the fan is broken, and/or the cooling fins on the tranny are covered with grass clippings and dirt, then you can expect it to get weak when it warms up. Clean it up and replaced the fan if damaged, and there's a good chance it will work fine.
