Craftsman 5.5

I just started having problems with my mower.
At first it would not run.
I replaced the air filter as well as the hose that connect the carburator
to the main housing (it was cracked).
The Mower ran but kept stalling.
I then removed the carburator and cleaned and soaked it in gunk.
It will run but it sputters, then will rev really high and stay reved high but as
soon as i move the mower it sputters then dies again.

When working on the mower, i was cranking and the pull cord broke, so i had
to take that off and retie the cord.

Cleaned carburator, new air filter, new air hose, new fuel..
does is timing involved with small engines?

thanks,
xeliha

What make and ID numbers of the engine? How long does it run before it stalls? If varying times, please be specific. Did you replace any parts in the carburetor when you serviced it? Yes, there is an ignition timing mechanism but it is simply the flywheel key. If you strike a solid object with the blade it can shear and throw off the timing.
