how to adjust valves

Can someone please tell me how to adjust the valve clearance on an over head valve 14.5 hp Briggs and Stratton engine?

Without the ID numbers but generally, you'll need a hex (allen) wrench and a 7/16" wrench. Loosen the jam nut with the box wrench and adjust the clearance with the hex wrench. The piston needs to be postioned at 1/4" past top dead center (TDC) on the power stroke to ensure that the MCR (mechanical compression release) does not affect your settings. Generally, the clearances will be .005" but we can better advise you with the specific ID numbers off the engine.
