dead riding mower

I'm new to this, but I'll get right to the question; two riding mowers, 1.) Central Park, 2.) Weedeater both 36" decks & about 12 yrs old wont start. Blows fuses when key is turned. I changed the ign switches on both; the fuses as well. They both ran last yr. & sit outside year round. If I bypass the relay on the wall w/ a hot wire the starter will crank on the weedeater (havent had a chance to try this on the central park model). Is this just a bad relay?

Most likely but with any electrical issue it could be a number of issues with the next most common issue being a bare wire which is never usually easy to locate. Generally, the cost of a new relay is reasonable and a good place to start by replacing such.
