If it's brand new it should be ready to go. You will probably need to buy a new diaphragm because I doubt the carb comes with one, and you don't want to re-use the old one.

The new carb will, in fact, come with a new diaphragm and gasket, just be sure to clean out the fuel tank well before you mount the new carb.

The fact that the air filter is less than $4 to replace would lead me to do this rather than try to clean it. Be sure to apply an even, thorough, light coat of oil (SAE30 - same as in the engine) throughout the air filter.

If the carb does not come with a new diaphgram kit I would suggest you replace it, Part No 495770 ($3.50) which is diaphgram and gasket or 5083 ($2.99 at Lowe's) the 5083 also includes the internal spring and screen tube. I just received 3 "new" Weedeater brand 5hp 22" mowers from Walmart they would not run, replaced the diaphgrams they ran great. They obviously were manufactured and sat in a warehouse somewhere and the diaphgrams stiffened. Have a good one. Geo
