B&S 6 HP lawnmower w/oil leak
Oil is blowing or gushing out when the motor is running. It is happening where the oil filler tube meets the base plate of the motor on the mower's deck. I checked for the correct amount of oil and that's OK. I found I can move the upper part of the mower where the starter and gas tank are located. The entire assembly moves about 1/8 inch vertically. The oil definitely flows more freely if I lift the upper portion of the motor with the motor running. I'm wondering if there is a seal of some type around the filler tube or if the upper part of the mower has lost a screw somewhere, allowing it to move. I had a parts manual at one time but can't find it. If there is a parts diagram available I would like to get a copy of it. Thanks for any suggestions.

Both of your assertions are correct, there is a seal (O-ring) on the bottom of the oil full tube and there likely is a screw that has come out on the top end thereby allowing the oil tube to lift out of the sump. You may have a blower shroud that is loose/missing screw(s)/stripped screw threads and this could cause the fill tube to lift out as well since the oil tube is mounted to the blower shroud. You'll have to remove the fuel tank to have a looksee.
