Dirt in lawn mower fuel tank
We have a Murray 5 HP push mower with a Briggs and Stratton engine. The lawn mower got left in the backyard after mowing last time and my little boys decided it would be fun to put dirt in the fuel tank. I removed the fuel tank assembly, but have no idea how to flush the tank out. I don't want to ruin the mower. Any suggestions on how to flush the tank out would be appreciated.

Cleaning Fuel Tank
Ok....after emptying the dirt out, flush with water till it is clean.Dry out with compressed air. Then rinse it out with gas. That will get you cutting grass again.

I would be glad to look up what you have but figure a better answer will come along before you post #'s of your engine/mower :-). If you have the tank off I'd just flush it good with water and blow it out with air. If your carb is attached to the tank I would remove that before introducing any water to the tank.
Folks that do this every day will be along soon though.
Repair Guy beat me to it :-)
