spark plug fouling

spark plug fouling

I have a three year old craftsman 7hp ohv briggs and stratton mower...my problem is that the plug keeps fouling...I have changed it twice and it runs for a while and clogs up again.....any idea's on how to fix this problem...Thanks

This can be caused by a few things:

Dirty fuel

Clogged air filter

carb

What color is the tip of the spark plug?

There are other possibilities for fouling but the most common on Briggs 12 cubic inch overhead valve vertical engines is not setting the spark plug gap at .020", as opposed to the most common .030" used on nearly every other domestic, walk-behind mower application engine

Thanks ...I will check the gap on the plug...It is a new plug...the clor on te pug is coal black...
