Craftsman w/ Tecumseh engine problem

Brand new to the forum.

Just got a Craftsman "Eager-1" self propelled lawnmover donated to my family because it didn't start. It had been sitting a long time. I have begun cleaning and repairing. The carburator was dry and gas did not flow. Tried to get a manual through Sears and they are less than helpful. On line, the manual is not available. The carb has a 1/2" brass bolt head on the bottom of the float bowl. I cannot get it to turn to check on carb parts. Is there some secret? Can I get a manual anywhere?

Craftsman Model 917372285
Engine 143.434162

I think this is the engine manual you need.
You can find the manual at
http://www.cpdonline.com/692509.pdf
So for the other problem, put a 1/2 inch socket or boxed end wrench on that bolt, it has right handed threads.
Here we go;
Clamp off the fuel line, remove the carb bowl, release the clamp to see if you have good fuel flow to the carb, raise the float to see that it shuts off the flow with minimal pressure, clean the junk from the bowl, clean the bowl nut, 2 holes close to the bottom and a tiny one about midway up(I usually use the wire from a twist tie), spray all holes, cracks and crevases with brake parts cleaner, reassemble and you should be good to go. If this didn't work it will be probably be necessary to rebuild the carb. If I missed something one of the real mechanics will post to help further. Refer to the photo below. Have a good one . Geo

That engine is a TVS115-56001A
You can see the IPL for the mower drive/frame at www3.sears.com just enter the model number and scroll down to browse components.

If it won't turn, you may have excessive buildup of varnish and/or oxidation inside it, which makes a nasty mess of a carburetor. Rarely does a tecumseh carb come out ok after reaching that point of disrepair, so you might be ahead by just buying a new carb.

They can be hard to remove. Usually equal prying force on opposite sides of the adapter at the same time will get it to break free. I've used 2 hooked crowbars, one on either side of the adapter, to achieve this effect.

Cool Tecumsah engine

Sort of off topic from the previous poster

I am need of a manual for a Tecumsah lawnmower engine from a Craftsman mower.

I have the engine out of the mower, the crank case is open but I can't get to one of the bolts to remove the head so I can remove the Piston, rod and rings.

Model number 143 376012 SER 714 D

Can anyone help? I also need this to put the motor back together.

Thank you
Ed

You can find most any tecumseh manual on ebay if nowhere else.
