carb help on 5HP Tecumseh

I just picked up a Sears model#536.909400 snow blower (1979?). The engine is a 5hp Tecumseh engine (model#143-687022) The previous owner said that the carburetor leaked gas.
My son took the carb off to clean it up. In the process, he found out that the needle on the idle adjustment screw was broken off. BTW, he also found that the float needle was incorrectly installed.
I would rather replace the carb than try to get the tip of the idle screw out of its seat. The problem is that I can't find a model number for this carb.
Any advice about the model# for this carb or a replacement carb would be appreciated.

Since Sears used to be Tecumseh prevalent, any small engine shop worth it's salt will have the cross reference.
The data base I use shows Sears 143.687022 to be Tecumseh HS50-67169B.
hope this helps,

After chasing through Sears Diaghrams and Parts lists the carb is part # 631955 (631916) and lists for $86.00. You should be able to find something cheaper at your local small engine shop. Have a good one. Geo

I'm in agreement, take the carburetor and all the ID numbers along with you to your local repair shop, that also services Tecumseh's, and let them have a look and advise you. Perhaps they would have a suitable, used replacement carburetor.
