Yardman wont start
Hi I have an 18 hp yardman lawn tractor that wont start. (I know its winter but I need to mow leaves before snow hits.) I have changed the spark plug, and battery with no luck.It barely cranks, 1-3 turns and it stops. Anyone have an idea? I really need to get these leaves mowed up quick.
Thanks for the help

Could be a lot of things, but there are a lot of different yardmans, and a lot of different 18 hp engines that could be on them. Narrowing it down for us would help us give you more detailed instructions. (engine make and model).

I had the same problem on my 19 hp b&s, the valves were out of adjustment not allowing the motor to turn over but a few times then compression locking, I have to adjust them about twice a year.

Thanks for the reply. The model # is PR1842STB for the lawn tractor. Engine is a Briggs and Stratton. It says INTEK PLUS 18.0 H.P. OHV. There is a engine sticker on the side that says: family YBSYS.5012VP 274826. There also is a model # on top of the exhaust that says model # 31H777 0202 type e1 code 020308ZA. That's all I saw. Thanks for any and all help.
ps snow fell last night, just my luck.
Thanks Again, Orbit

Ok, you have the single cylinder OHV 18 horse instead of the flathead twin cyinder 18 hp I was thinking of.
In this case, j400 is putting you on the right track. I agree and suggest adjusting the valves. This should solve your problem.
