Primer on Briggs

I have a push mower with a briggs engine that runs fine but the primer don't work.If you give it shot of gas it starts and runs ok. The chamber behind the primer bulb has a hole into the fuel bowel and one into the carb bore but no valves to direct the flow,I am guessing something is missing. Sorry I don't have model nos. as it is stored for the winter.Any ideas? RW

I believe there is supposed to be a checkball in the passage behind the primer bulb. This is a link to the IPL for the 4hp Briggs I have with a primer (10A902/2171) Page 4, part #913 I believe. good luck!
