Auger Worm Gear orientaion Craftsman 8.5 snowblower

Hey guys,
My snowblower is several years old and the worm gear eventually wore out/ground off. I got a replacement gear (B&S 51405MA). The gear doesn't appear symmetric, and I didnt notice the orientation when I disassembled it. I tried it in both orientations, and it works, but the whole auger bar seems to be rocking back and forth (left to right) a bit. This may be a totally separate issue, or due to a new, full sized gear. Is there a proper orientation for the gear??
Thanks in advance,
Adam
