Older Craftsman Riding mower ??

A friend just gave me a Craftsman riding mower (model # 502-255040) 10HP 30” cut after replacing the ignition it seems to run fine with a couple of exceptions. When I turn the key to the off position the engine doesn’t shut-off and the brakes don’t work at all … any help on this one???

The yellow is the kill wire, Make sure it's hooked at the engine and has no breaks in it up to the ignition switch.

On the left side top of the transaxle (sitting on the seat) you will see a arm with a rod ran through a adjuster. This is the brake rod, Removing this adjuster from the arm and backing it off the rod a couple turns at a time will tighten the brake if the lining isn't worn out.

Good Luck

Sears still shows parts for this unit. Call Sears & order a owners manual-it has all the info you need.
I have this unit-runs fine after 7 years

I found a Sears manual for you. This manual is pdf.
Go to Sears website--parts--type model # 536.270112
You have to register
First box type: rear engine rider
make a screen name & register w/ password.
This model is identical to yours
Have fun............

Might would have been better if you had posted a new thread of your own. I'm not sure what answers you're after, but doesn't sound like Desi's.
thanks,
