Briggs Vanguard or Honda?
I'm trying to choose b/t two Winco tri-fuel portable generators: 9kw 16hp B&S Vanguard (PSS9000) or 12kw 20hp Honda(HPS12000HE).
the 9kw would provide enough juice and probably be easier to find parts out here but are Honda's that much more reliable to make them worth while? It'll be used for back up power for our farm house. Any advice would be appreciated.

That's a tough one to answer. I think you'll have an excellent engine either way, and you're choosing between two of the best. I think you're right in regard to parts availability for the briggs though.

I'm not a professional but it seems to me that if the smaller generator is big enough you may be able to save some fuel by going with the 16 horse over the 20 horse.
Don't know if it matters or not to you but it's something to consider.
If you need to move it around at all it probably weighs less also.

local knowledge a key
thanks to the three of you for weighing in on this. i've since called a few of my local engine shops and they all say they stock Briggs parts, whereas they'd have to order Honda and that their company training has mostly focused on B&S.
Also, Winco just reveiled this week that their fuel consumption amounts were off and will be changing them to 1.5 g/hr for the 9kw and 2.2 g/hr for the 12kw when run on LP. Unless any one has heard that tri-fuels pose major problems I believe I'll go w/ the 9kw B&S. I just need to do a more careful calculation of what wattage needs, considering surge loads. I'm glad to hear yas think these are two good choices. cheers
