Crankcase Trouble

I have an old Sears brand (pre-craftsman) tiller. It locked up a few days ago due to no oil, (duh, he forgot to check it) but after adding oil it ran fine. But, after several hours of running it stopped turning. Now if you tilt the tiller back it slowly will spin, but as soon as the blades touch the ground they stop. When you put it in gear the motor does not change pitches like it normally does when you engage the blades. Any ideas of where to start?

No oil where? Gearcase? Engine? Also post back with the chassis and engine ID numbers.

It ran out of oil in the gear box. The motor is running great, it just won't turn the blades. I will have to get the numbers off of it, I will post them tonight. Thank you for your help.
