ChoreMaster 5hp rototiller - no recoil

Our tiller is 5 hp- front tine- puill type- Magna Chore Master model 500541. The rope most of the time won't recoil and there's very little resistance. We took it apart down to the ball bearings, which we put back into place. The spline that the shaft slides onto appears to be magnetic, but the shaft
turns freely instead of locking in place. When taken off, it's about three inches long. I'm wondering if this is a replacable bearing. We don't have a manual. Any suggestions? thanks- the wife

Sounds like you have and need a new Briggs starter clutch,
which any mower shop will have in stock. The whole unit threads on as a nut, and is the flywheel nut as well.
