Ryobi 890r - head stops intermittently

The head on my Ryobi 890r Brushwacker stops engaging (spinning) at random periods when the engine is running - usually after several minutes. After stopping and letting the engine cool it will reenage and run fine for a bit more.

I've taken apart the bottom shaft and head but don't see anything unusual that I could break. The problem must either be at the engine or the top half of the shaft. Hints on what to look for and/or how to fix it are appreciated. I believe I could fix it if I knew what to look at.

Thanks.

I think you'll probably find that the shaft has slid out away from the engine just enough that the flex cable isn't firmly engaged with the drive end of the clutch drum. Loosen the shaft clamping screw and slide it up into the engine as far as it will go, then tighten the clamping screw(s) and see if that doesn't solve the problem.
