cub cadet hydro problem

For four years I have had a pretty old cub cadet HYDRO 1420 -( I think), and a 1/2 acre lawn. It has been getting weaker every year. Almost no reverse and a five minute warmup before it goes forward slowly at full throttle. I'm a pretty good shade tree car mechanic so if it is possible for me to repair this cub I'd appreciate some input. Thanks

I've never torn into one, but the oil may be low or burnt.
Changing it may give it new life.

Might be right. Drain the oil from the tranny and note the condition of it. This will tell a lot about what is wrong. Post back with the oil condition.
