Craftsman B&S engine code ??? Where ???

I just acquired a 12/36 craftsman lawn tractor. It was given to me and hasn't ran in the last few years sitting in a barn, but looks salvageable.

It has a 12hp briggs & stratton engine. It has numbers stamped on the flywheel cover above the spark plug but they don't seem to be the correct b&s engine numbers. When I try to use them at the B&S web site, they don't work !

On the flywheel cover: 143 376012 ser 6342D

On the tractor: 944 605120 ser# 3456503779

Thanks for any help you can offer.

That is a Tecumseh engine, Sears code for Tecumseh is 143. If you go to www3.sears.com and enter those numbers in the model window it will bring up an IPL of the engine for you. If you enter the 944 number you will get the whole tractor.

Good luck

It's not a Briggs

The 143 is sears code for a Tecumseh engine. Enter the 143 number into the sears site and it will bring up your engine.

Anyone know what size of drive belt I need for this tractor. It wasn't there when I got it.

I went to the sears page and could bring up the engine specs. but I get nothing when I put in the tractor codes ?

Thanks.
