Craftsman Lawn Tractor Jerks in Gear

I have a 12 hp model 917.254551 that jerks while in gear. It mostly happens in 4th,5th and 6th gears. I changed the drive belt thinking it was slipping. Could it be in the trans axle, possibly a pinion gear or something that is slipping? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

If it's only doing it in 4,5 and 6th gears I would look into worn shift keys or possibly one is broken, Either way it's in the transaxle so once opened you can inspect everything.

Good Luck

I agree...probably worn shift keys.
