20 HP Intek surging

Hi all,

I have a JD L118 with a B&S 20HP Intek (MN 406777 Code 0139)
that is surging during usage. When the surging occurs, the mower will maybe run with the Choke full on. I let the mower sit for an hr or so and it starts to surge after 10-15 min.

I have replaced the fuel filter, fuel pump, and the air cleaners. None of this has helped. The problem has gotten progressively worse over the course of a month.

I cleaned the carb and the jets. I freed up the fuel shut off valve. The problem persists.

Any ideas?
Thanks
Steve

Hi Steve,

Does the engine run fine to begin with, and then begin to surge after a period of time? If so, loosen the gas cap and see if it corrects itself.

If it surges from the beginning, I'd suspect a carb problem. Surging is caused by not enough fuel.
