snapper rear engine rider mower deck spindel removal and repair

I have a snapper rear engine rider model 301223bve.The mower deck spindle assembly housing has broken loose from the lowrer flange. What is involved in removing the spindle assembly from the mower deck ? Can the spindle assembly housing be replaced without replacing the shaft seals and bearings. Should this job be done with the deck on or off the mower? What is the best way to remove the mower deck pulley nut?
Any and all advice will be appreciated.Does anyone know wher to buy parts reasonably?

Thanks woodeye6713

You'll have to remove the top pulley nut (a wrench or impact, whatever will do the job), then pull the pulley, remove the woodruff key, remove the snap ring, then slide the jackshaft out of the mandrel. Then the bearings can be removed from the mandrel housing. I generally do this with the deck still installed, but you may find it easier and simpler if you remove the deck. Your call. If this is an older mower that's seen the weather all it's life, it may be a chore to get apart.
