Craftsman eager 1 Carb?

Mower will start for only a second, after cleaning the carb out I am still having this problem. I need to replace the gasket on the bowl because it is leaking pretty bad, will the leaky/deteoriated gasket cause this problem? Also my primer bulb is missing will it still work? Currently I amusing starter fluid to get a very short start approx 2 seconds.. FYI this is a 5 HP B&S engine, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Replace the primer and bowl gasket and then decided if you have a problem. If they weren't needed they wouldn't be there. Have a good one. Geo

Also, this doesn't sound like a Briggs engine (eager 1).
