20.5 hp Briggs vtwin surges, wont idle

Hey there, i suddenly had a problem after mowing last week the engine keeps hunting up and down and dies when i try to idle. It runs ok when i put the choke 1/2 on but starts surging when i turn it off. Must of got something in the carb so i tried some carb cleaner and ran it 20 minutes but no change. Thanks for the advice.

You'll need to take the carb off, open it up, and clean it well, blow out all passages, and reassemble.

I had the same problem with my 20.5 Briggs last summer. If you have'nt taken the carb. off yet, try some Sta-bil fuel stabilizer mixed 50% richer in your tank. It smoothed mine out in about ten minutes running time. Good luck.
