MTD Yard Machine tranny problem?

I have the basic low price mtd yard machine. it just locked up. runs great, but cannot seem to get into neutral. but that is not quite it either. can push in pedal to release drive belt, but cannot coast it. can start it. let clutch pedal out, nothing but slipping drive belt. jack up back end, wheels turn in opposite directions. cannot use gear shift to put it in neutral to push it.

The brake lever on the side of the tranny may be stuck and keeping the brake locked up. See if you can release it. If the brake is not stuck, you probably have internal tranny problems.

I agree, it is likely just the brake. The brake is a lever actuated device that is on the right side of the transmission, it
clamps on a little brake disc, and the lever just needs to be
moved a little, and you will hear a clunk. After it is loosened, give a light spray of wd-40, or something similar.
