summer snowblower tuneup

Just picked up a 5HP/22" electric start craftsman snowblower with Tecumseh engine for a good summertime price. It's about 10 years old (I think it was made by Murray), and I want to prep it for the winter. The owner said it was in storage for a few years, but it started up after a few pulls and seems ok to me. I'm looking for suggestions on maintenance items. Here's my plan:

-replace oil
-inspect and replace belts (if necessary)
-lube gears
-buy extra shear pins (I hear these break routinely)
-buy extra plastic key: cheapest looking part of the whole machine.

here are my questions:
-is my spray-lithium grease good for the gears?
-should I get off-the-shelf carb cleaner at the autoparts store to put in the gasoline and run through to clean out the carb --OR-- just buy and install a carb overhaul kit.

Thanks for any help!

I'm pretty sure it had the steel auger. Does that require special maintenance?

Parts are avail. on sears website under parts--they don't
show an owners manual.
You say it runs ok--if it ain't broke why try to fix it?
Call your local repair shop-see if gears have to be lubed.
Burn all gasoline out of engine b/4 you put it away.
Change oil -good idea.
have fun.......................
