Craftsman riding mower deck sticks

20 kohler 46" w/ 3 blades
Deck runs fine until at high RPM I hit high grass, The left pully makes a high pitched screem then shortly after locks up and starts burnning the belt.
I haven't taken the deck apart but after removing the belts all the pullies seem to spin fine when not under load.

Any Ideas?
Thanks

It sounds like the bearings in the mandrel (spindle) are going bad. When you hit grass, the belt has to pull harder on the pulley, increasing the load on the bearing until it locks up.

I doubt there's any way to take it apart to grease it or replace the bearings without special tools. Fortunately, the replacement mandrel isn't all that expensive, and it's not too hard to remove and install.

It looks like it's the upper bearing on the spindle. Sears has them for ~$12 each, so I'm going to pick one up.
Found them online for .88/each + $8 shipping. I'll have to order a dozen.

Thanks.
