briggs and stratton problem

Hi. Maybe someone can help me. I have a Briggs and Stratton 148cc 475 series small engine on a brute pressure washer. I have to either pull the spark plug wire off the spark plug, or reach under the air cleaner with a long screw driver to push back the govener?? to get the thing to stop running. It use to just run on a little bit when I turned it off, but now it keeps running all together. any suggestions? Russ

It may be that the kill switch has popped out of the socket it snaps into and when you put the throttle lever in the stop position, its not grounding out and killing the engine.
