What's the idle speed of small 4-cycle engines?

I got an inquiry about building an engine-driven winch using a 4-cycle engine such as a 5HP Honda GC160 or 5.5 HP Briggs Power Built.

What RPM will these engines idle at reliably? Will the idle speed be much lower with a steel pulley about 5" in diameter weighing about 2 pounds installed?

Idle speed is probably in the 1500 rpm area, with max rpm around 3000-3500.

Idle speed won't change with the pulley, but it might be harder to start unless it has electric start.

That small a pulley shouldn't affect the motor much at all unless there is a load on that pulley. You will NEVER start that motor if there is 1000 pound load on the winch directly tied to that pulley, unless it's disconnected through a clutch of some kind.
